Exploration and Appraisal Workshop
Proposed Duration:
4-6 weeks
Who Should Attend:
Multidisciplinary teams (4-5 persons with a maximum of 20 per workshop) of petroleum geologists, geophysicists and engineers (from 0-10 years experience) who are involved in integrated regional projects, basin evaluations and prospect identification.
Overview:
This workshop is designed to provided a thorough understanding of modern concepts of assessment of a basin for hydrocarbon potential, from initial data gathering, to integration of all data sources to define play types, identify prospects and assess risk.
Objectives:
Principal objectives of the programme are to train small multidisciplinary groups in:
- Play fairway mapping and acreage evaluation
- Project planning and management
The groups will act as exploration teams/asset groups competing to acquire the best exploration blocks and prospects.
Dataset:
Training will provide role-play in the simulation of a real situation using either an extensive Fugro Robertson database or the client's own data. The database will include:
- Regional information, publications, reports and maps
- Processed seismic and top structure maps in time and depth
- Non-seismic (gravity/magnetic) data
- Well data: logs, tests and analytical information on stratigraphy, source potential and maturity, core analysis, etc.
Content:
Groups will conduct the project work themselves under the supervision and guidance of Fugro Robertson staff:
- Module 1 - Project planning and data collection/collation
- Module 2 - Geophysical assessment, tectonic and structural development of the basin
- Module 3 - Stratigraphy and facies mapping: identification of reservoir/seal potential
- Module 4 - Source rock facies and hydrocarbon generation
- Module 5 - Play fairway mapping
- Module 6 - Prospect evaluation
