QEMSCAN™

Fugro Robertson's newly acquired QEMSCAN™ system represents an integrated scanning electron microscope hardware and cutting edge software suite that allows the fully automated acquisition of quantitative mineralogical data from a range of widely available sample types. The system captures up to 12,000 mineralogical point counts every minute generating a mineralogical map of each rock fragment.

QEMSCAN™

The QEMSCAN™ system is capable of capturing up to 12,000 mineralogical point count results every minute, generating high detail datasets at a range of resolutions. Screening analysis (50μm resolution) generates detailed mineralogical data - higher resolution (10μm and higher) also enable the capture of textural and porosity data. These digital data are then presented as downhole abundance charts and the data can also be readily inserted into well log programs as plots alongside wireline data.

Fully quantitative QEMSCAN™ datasets are multi functional and can be obtained from a range of widely available sample types, typically ditch cuttings, core and sidewall core. A single dataset has a wide range of applications within the oil industry and has been applied to specific reservoir/production senarios, regional correlation and single well analysis. Applications include:

• Detailed mineralogical and textural data obtained from the actual rock, generating valuable data for petrophysical/wireline log calibration
• Identification/chemical characterisation of key stratigraphic surfaces for well correlation.
• Automatic generation of user defined modifiable lithotypes
• Facies, palaeoenvironmental and sequence stratigraphic interpretations from well datasets for integration both locally and regionally.
• Comprehensive chemical and mineralogical characterisation of sediments providing a context for chemical stratigraphic subdivision produced by chemostratigraphy techniques
• Detailed mineralogical datasets which allow the determination of downhole specific gravity curves
• Porosity determination and characterisation from core or cuttings samples
