Sample Preparation
Our well-equipped and ISO 9001:2000 accredited laboratories form an essential part of our service, providing both project support and stand alone analytical services with rapid turnarounds available when required.
Regardless of the sophistication of the analysis, results are only as representative as the sample received and analysed. Robust sample preparation and preservation techniques are of paramount importance, whether analysing at the part per million (ppm) level (e.g. for surface geochemistry samples) or at the percentage level (e.g. for Total Carbon) to ensure that the subsample or sample extract presented for analysis is homogeneous and fit for purpose.
Where necessary we can advise on sample collection and preservation, and provide appropriate containers to preserve sample integrity.
Sample preparation techniques provided include:
- Size reduction (crushing)
- Solvent extraction (Soxtec)
- Washing
- Drilling Fluid/Mud Removal
- Picking of lithologies
- Preparation of kerogen isolates
- Vitrinite preparation on whole rock or kerogen
- Spore colour slide preparation
