Oil Correlation Studies for Petroleum Systems Evaluation

Fugro Robertson geochemists have developed a global database of biomarker properties of source rocks and oils which can greatly assist interpretations of oil to source rock correlations.

Geochemical correlation of oils to their source is accomplished using both specific detailed parameters (e.g. biomarker ratios) and statistical tools such as multivariate and co-variance analyses. The geochemical characteristics / fingerprints of the solvent extractable component of source rock organic matter can be compared to the same types of data from oils, in order to correlate source rocks with oils.
