Experience in Europe (including the North Sea)

Return to map

Fugro Robertson has over 35 years experience in North Sea biostratigraphy. This includes single well studies as well as many multi-well correlation studies encompassing sediments of all ages. The company has also undertaken high resolution stratigraphic and palaeoenvironmental projects on both clastic and carbonate reservoirs throughout the North Sea and Norwegian Sea. Fugro Robertson also has extensive experience in wellsite biostratigraphy in the North Sea, particularly biosteering, within Tertiary and Mesozoic reservoirs.

Experience in the rest of Europe is very widespread and diverse, encompassing a full range of basin styles and location. Multi-well and regional studies have been carried out, often supported by large-scale data reviews. Single well studies are sometimes supplemented by the analysis of outcrop samples, especially throughout the Mediterranean region.

Key experience in Europe

At least 17 European countries have been analysed biostratigraphically by Fugro Robertson. Due to our extensive experience we are able to design cost effective study programmes to meet the specific requirements of our clients. Listed below are the countries where we have most experience together with the approximate number of wells analysed:

  • UK (including onshore and West of Shetland) - over 2600 wells
  • Norway (including Norwegian and Barents Sea) - approximately 1300 wells
  • Denmark - over 900 wells
  • The Netherlands - over 350 wells
  • Ireland - over 40 wells
  • Spain - over 50 wells

Experience in Africa

North Africa

Fugro Robertson has more than 35 years experience in North Africa, in sediments ranging in age from Palaeozoic to Tertiary.

Multi-client studies of the Western Desert, Gulf of Suez and Sinai areas of Egypt, the offshore Nile Delta, and Libya's Sirte Basin have all been undertaken. In addition over 50 well sections have been analysed from the Ghadames and Murzuk Basins of Libya while 40 well sections have been analysed from the Berkine/Ghadames Basin of Algeria. Fugro Robertson also has extensive experience of the Precambrian-Quaternary successions of on- and offshore Morocco.

West Africa

Fugro Robertson has more than 30 years experience in West Africa. We have conducted multi-well/correlation studies in the majority of countries in the region, working for both oil companies and government agencies. Our experience encompasses sediments of all ages, including the Mesozoic Pre- and Post-Salt successions of Gabon, Angola, Congo, etc., the Tertiary/Quaternary successions of on- and offshore Niger Delta, and other Neogene successions in the deep offshore.

On the basis of our broad experience of West African sedimentary basins, we are able to design efficient and cost effective study programmes to meet the specific requirements of our clients

East Africa

Fugro Robertson has gathered experience from all parts of this region over more than 35 years. Many analyses have been carried out as parts of large regional studies, including a multiclient sequence stratigraphy study completed in 2005. Also, in recent years, numerous wells have been analysed from Sudan and extensive sections have been analysed at wellsite in Somalia and Kenya.

Key experience in Africa

We have carried out biostratigraphic analyses in over 30 African countries. Listed below are the countries where we have analysed the most well sections:

  • Libya - approximately 600 wells
  • Egypt - over 220 wells
  • Algeria - approximately 220wells
  • Côte d'Ivoire - approximately 70 wells
  • Ghana - approximately 80 wells
  • Equatorial Guinea - approximately 150 wells
  • Gabon - approximately 200 wells
  • Angola - approximately 90 wells
  • Sudan - approximately 50 wells

Experience in the Middle East and SW Asia

Return to map

Fugro Robertson has over 35 years experience in the Middle East. As well as analyses of hydrocarbon wells, work has also been carried out on very large numbers of outcrop samples, water wells and seismic shotholes. Our experience encompasses sediments of all ages, spread throughout the wide variety of regional basin types, and many different fossil groups are utilised in analyses of clastic, carbonate and mixed successions. Commonly, emphasis is placed on palaeoenvironmental interpretation and recognition of sequence stratigraphic features at all scales. Regional studies have been carried out in most parts of the Middle East and SW Asia, often fully integrated with other disciplines. We also have extensive experience of biosteering in Oman, Qatar, the UAE and offshore Iran.

Key experience in Middle East and SW Asia

Listed below are the Middle Eastern and SW Asian countries where we have analysed the most well sections. In addition, we have also carried out analyses on over 50 wells in Pakistan, Qatar and India, and examined sections from many other countries in the region.

  • Kuwait - over 100 wells
  • Oman - approximately 220 wells
  • Saudi Arabia - approximately 200 wells
  • UAE, Abu Dhabi - over 120 wells
  • UAE, Sharjah - over 110 wells
  • UAE, Dubai- approximately 130 wells
  • Yemen - over 170 wells

Experience in Far East and Australasia

Return to map

Fugro Robertson set up its first office in the Far East and Australasia as long ago as 1971, and, although its biostratigraphy unit in Jakarta has since closed, the company still retains large amounts of biostratigraphic data on this key region.

Studies on the whole of SE Asia and Australasia have been undertaken in basins ranging from Palaeozoic to Cenozoic in age. Many well studies have utilised quantitative tropical Tertiary palynology techniques to elucidate correlation of fluvial and lacustrine sequences. In addition, marine planktonic taxa are used to identify important flooding events. Mesozoic sequences have primarily been studied on the Australian margin, Papua New Guinea and eastern Indonesia. Fugro Robertson's in-house palynological zonation scheme for PNG has been widely accepted as an industry standard. Wellsite biostratigraphy has also been carried out in the region.

Experience in North and South America

Return to map

Although Fugro Robertson no longer has a biostratigraphy unit in North America, the company has inherited a large volume of biostratigraphic data from previous operations there (based in Calgary and Halifax), including studies on the Sverdrup Basin, Mackenzie Basin and offshore Eastern Canada. In addition, a large number of outcrop analyses have been conducted (e.g. in British Columbia & the Canadian Arctic Islands). Recently the North Wales Office has undertaken a considerable amount of work in Alaska and Canada, including single well studies and regional studies in the Mackenzie Delta, Scotian Shelf, Flemish Pass, Queen Charlotte and Tofino Basins, Jeanne D'Arc Basin and Labrador Sea.

Fugro Robertson has more than 30 years experience in South America. Areas of special expertise include the Llanos Basin and Magdalena Valley of Colombia, the Oriente Basin of Ecuador, and the Santos, Campos and Espirito Santo Basins of Brazil.

On the basis of our broad experience, we are able to design cost-effective study programmes.
